According to the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization, family farming produces over 80% of the world’s food. This means that family farmers are in the best position to address some of the major global challenges identified by the Sustainable Development Goals. That is why the United Nations adopted Resolution 72/239, which aims to generate a refreshed political commitment in supporting family farmers and crafting pro-family farming policies.
Within this context, the Southern Africa Agri Initiative drafted a resolution for the protection of family farmers that calls on state parties to combat crimes against family farmers.
